< Return to Firm News ST&G's John Shaffer Named to Ninth Circuit Advisory Committee on Appellate Rules March 6, 2006 K. John Shaffer, a senior shareholder at ST&G, has been
appointed to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals' Advisory Committee on
Appellate Rules. The Advisory Committee
consists of leading appellate lawyers and academics from the nine states that
comprise the nation's largest federal appellate court. In inviting Mr. Shaffer to join the Advisory
Committee, the Chief Judge of the Ninth Circuit, Mary Schroeder, wrote that Mr.
Shaffer's "experience as an appellate lawyer will bring valuable insight
to the work of the committee."
Mr. Shaffer has had significant experience representing
debtors and unsecured creditors, including in Owens-Corning, Kaiser Aluminum, and
Mariner Post Acute Network. He is a
member of the Federal Judicial Conference's Advisory Committee on Bankruptcy
Rules and the Financial Lawyers Conference, and he has served as a Director of
both the California and Los Angeles Bankruptcy Forums.
Prior to joining ST&G, Mr. Shaffer served as a law clerk
to Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy and to Ninth Circuit Judge Alex
Kozinski. Mr. Shaffer attended Stanford
University and the Boalt Hall School of Law, where he served as an editor of
the California Law Review and was a member of the Order of the Coif.
