Mr. Shaffer is a senior shareholder of ST&G, and has extensive
experience representing debtors and creditors in chapter 11 cases.
He attended Stanford
University, receiving his
A.B. with honors and distinction in 1986. Mr. Shaffer received his J.D.
degree from Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California
in 1989, where he served as Book Review Editor for the California Law Review. He was a member of the Order of the Coif.
Mr. Shaffer served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Alex Kozinski, U.S. Court
of Appeals, Ninth Circuit, from 1989 to 1990, and as Law Clerk to the Honorable
Anthony M. Kennedy, Associate Justice, U.S. Supreme Court from 1990 to 1991.
Mr. Shaffer is the Secretary of the National Bankruptcy Conference and a
member of the American
College of Bankruptcy and
the Board of Governors of the Financial Lawyers Conference. He served as a member of the Judicial
Conference Advisory Committee on the Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure and
as President of the Los Angeles Bankruptcy Forum.
Mr. Shaffer is a frequent speaker on bankruptcy-related topics, including
for the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges, the California Bankruptcy
Forum, the Norton Institutes on Bankruptcy, and the American Law Institute -
American Bar Association. He co-authored "Creditors' Committee Under
Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code," 44 S.C. L. Rev. 995 (1993).
